The History of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The war in Gaza has absorbed the attention of the international community, and for good reason. The humanitarian disaster there is an abhorrent consequence of the tactical reality in Gaza. The conflict, while a current event, is directly connected to the region's complex history. The history of Israel’s creation in the West is an unknown and often misunderstood story of tragedy,  political strife, war, and intervention. It is a 20th-century phenomenon that stretches beyond the two central nations themselves. This article does not seek to assert an opinion on this issue but offers an accessible history to serve as a contextual backdrop to the origins of the ongoing conflict. The focus will be on the events leading up to the creation of Israel and how it connects to today.

Light: More Than Meets The Eye

Throughout the tapestry of human history, none has captured our collective imagination more than the profound enigma of light. This luminous entity has been the subject of enduring fascination. With questions as ancient as our existence, we have probed the very essence of light: its composition, its absence, and the way it bathes our world in its glow.

The Implications of a Carbon Tax in the US

Climate change is arguably the most relevant and impactful current event. Both its effects and countermeasures are felt globally, and many countries have begun implementing policies and goals in hopes of nullifying its impacts. Environmental catastrophes such as rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions are a direct result of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and are on course to continue worsening if emissions don't dramatically decline.

The Impact of Poverty on Single Mothers and Their Children

Poverty encompasses more than a lack of resources; it has the potential to condemn individuals for a lifetime. The relentless pursuit of escaping poverty takes a toll on one's well-being and overall quality of life. It is especially insidious for children, as it establishes lifelong struggles that are nearly impossible to overcome. Having grown up in the shadow of poverty, in a single-parent household, I can personally attest to the harm it inflicts such as abuse and illnesses to homelessness and food scarcity. Regrettably, this is a familiar reality for millions living in the United States.

The Behavioral Economics of Substance Abuse

To understand the reasoning behind substance abuse, we have to look at it from economic and psychological aspects, which brings us to the behavioral economic theory of substance abuse. It represents the reinforcers and contingencies, whether endogenous, as a subjective response to drugs, stress or arousal, or exogenous, which are the environmental factors such as low availability of alternatives, low prices of substances, social contexts that promote substance use, as well as life events that cause stress or dysphoria, that push the individual toward making cost-benefit decisions (Murphy & Dennhardt, 2016).

How Long Will Ukraine Last?

In February 2022 the war in Ukraine was widely expected to last less than a week against a Russian invasion. Now, there is speculation that the Western support of Ukraine could last beyond 2025. There are similar estimations on when Russia’s necessary material and logistics will be eroded. Ukraine has been in the Russian sphere of influence for much of its history, and for hundreds of years was adjoined to Moscow through different regimes. Once the conflict manifested positive results for Ukraine’s defense, 45 countries hastily sent weapons once designated for their own militaries, to the soldiers who were now fighting their enemy.

How a Tariff Dispute Almost Caused the American Civil War

The Civil War is a central part of American history. The great bloodshed that began in the spring of 1861 settled many divisions in early America, from the prominence of slavery to questions about federalism to regional power.
