In this edition of SnoQap Spotlight, we chat with Adam, the mind behind Project Mayon, a unique initiative that helps nonprofits through marketing and communications for broader impact.
"You see this a lot with other professional services like doctors and dentists doing trips abroad to help those in need with their expertise. And nobody really thinks about marketing in that way from my experience. I haven't seen a lot of that. So that was kind of the impetus for this whole idea.."
— Adam
Adam's career began in a media agency, focusing on digital activations for major clients. Over time, he transitioned to the creative agency side, honing his skills in communication strategy. One highlight he discusses is his recent work on a 2024 campaign that went live during the NFL’s annual “big game” in the US. He enjoys connecting creative ideas with strategic media planning and wanted to bring that critical skill to the nonprofits world.
The Vision Behind Project Mayon
The inception of Project Mayon came during a period when Adam was living in Asia and working as a freelancer. While engaging with small nonprofits, particularly those focused on ocean cleanup and plastic pollution, Adam recognized the significant impact that marketing professionals could have on organizations with limited resources. This realization led to the creation of Project Mayon, named after the iconic volcano in the Philippines.
Project Mayon aims to bridge the gap between the advertising world and small nonprofits. Adam notes that while large nonprofits often have access to substantial resources, smaller organizations typically struggle with visibility and engagement. Through Project Mayon, Adam and his team provide pro bono marketing services to help these nonprofits grow their outreach and impact.
This helps level the playing field so that, regardless of size, all nonprofits have a shot at creating a powerful and lasting impact based on their individual missions.
"[Project Mayon] is looking to help those very small nonprofits who might only have a couple of employees or volunteers. Maybe they don't even have a marketing person, or if they do they’re swamped and under-resourced, we want to help those types of organizations, and we'll let those huge NGOs and international nonprofits with hundreds of people on staff continue their own great work on a larger scale."

Case Studies and Future Goals
Project Mayon has already been involved in helping a small nonprofit in Charlotte, North Carolina, better achieve their mission of broader access to homelessness-prevention services. By assisting this organization in refining its messaging and improving its digital presence, Project Mayon played a crucial role in increasing community awareness and support. Another organization Project Mayon has been able to help is an Olympian-founded nonprofit focused on women's empowerment across the globe.
Looking ahead, Adam is enthusiastic about expanding Project Mayon, both in terms of scale and scope. He hopes to inspire more professionals to use their skills for good. He notes that anyone and everyone can choose an organization to support and help the common good in their unique way.
"I think when we look at the future, I would love to get more people inspired to join Project Mayon — advertising professionals that also might have this sort of interest in nonprofits, but didn't realize that they could use their professional skill sets to help… I hope the work we're doing will inspire others in our industry and other professional industries to either join us or do their own thing. I think the more the merrier, there's no kind of a zero sum game here. The more people we can inspire to use their professional skills the better."
